Док. фильмы об Анатолии Рыбакове и Семене Липкине

Два документальных фильма режиссера Валерия Балаяна открывают новый русский литературный и киносезон 2011/12.

 
В создании фильма о Рыбакове (“Анатолий Рыбаков. Прах и пепел) принимали участие сын писателя Алексей Макушинский, писатель и критик Соломон Волков и режиссер Андрей Эшпай.
Фильм о Липкине “Думать не надо. Плакать нельзя” впервые выйдет на экран в день 100-летнего юбилея поэта, 19 сентября, на телеканале “Культура”, а через три дня – у нас, в библиотеке.

 
Оба фильма по 45 мин., на русском языке.

4th Annual Russian Documentary Film Festival screenings

Join us at the Shorefront Y for The Fourth Annual Russian Documentary Film Festival in New York with a premier screening of two films: “Sergey Yursky: The Game of Life” and “Victor Nekrasov. Life in the Trenches.”
The Russian Documentary Film Festival in New York is organized by The New Review, Inc. (USA). This festival will be held in partnership with the Moscow Film Festival, Documentary Division and Cultural Center at Shorefront Y. Learn more about the film festival at www.rusdocfilmfest.org.

 
We will screen documentaries dedicated to two Russian celebrities – actors Sergei Yursky and writer Victor Necrasov. In Russian.
Sergey Yursky: The Game of Life
This film is about one of the brightest actors and directors of Russian theater and film – Sergey Yursky. The phenomena оf Yursky’s personality is his universality. He is equally talented as a stage actor and writer. Yursky’s art is an event in the cultural life of the entire country. This film was made with the participation of Daria Yurskaya, Natalia Tenyakova, Alexander Kalyagin, Andrey Khrzhanovsky, Avdotia Smirnova, Alexander Filippenko, Dmitry Bykov, Lev Anninsky, Alexei Simonov, Vladimir Menshov, Pavel Khomsky.

Victor Nekrasov: Life in Trenches
An idol of many generations, Victor Nekrasov had written, perhaps, the best book about war, In the Trenches of Stalingrad, had become the youngest laureate of the Stalin award, and had ended up living out his days in exile in Paris. The film features interviews with Nekrasov and unique footage of his performances in Moscow and Paris. The directors, Alexei Shishov and Yelena Yakovich, are laureates of both the Second and Third festivals of Russian Documentary Film in New York for their works The World After Auschwitz and The Golden Age of Ernst Neizvestny, as well as TEFI award winners for their film Walking with Brodsky.

Memorial Evening: Dedicated to the 70th Anniversary of the Babi Yar Tragedy

Award-winning Russian film-maker, journalist, author and lecturer Alexandra Sviridova presents this program, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the tragedy of Babi Yar. In Russian.
Part 1. Short animated film: One Doll’s Story (1986), depicts the horrors of Auschwitz, written by Alexandra Sviridova and directed by Boris Ablymin. This film received the “Silver Dragon”, a major award of XXII Krakow International Film Festival.

Part 2. Film: Broken Silence: Children from the Abyss (2002), from Steven Spielberg’s Shoah Visual History Foundation. This film features the interviews with Russian and Eastern European Holocaust survivors. A discussion with Alexandra Sviridova will be held after the film screening.

Award-winning Russian film-maker, journalist, author and lecturer Alexandra Sviridova has 25 years of internationally-recognized accomplishments in the fields of cinema and investigative reporting. The child of a Holocaust survivor and a political dissident in the former Soviet Union, Sviridova has produced a ground-breaking documentary film about the gulag, as well as hundreds of interviews of Eastern European and Soviet survivors of Hitler’s camps. Sviridova has also produced more than 40 other films and video programs. A member of Moscow’s human rights movement, her intimate and comprehensive knowledge of the evolution of political and human rights in the former Soviet Union and the “new” Russia make her a particularly dynamic speaker, in both Russian and English.

Pavel Lembersky graduated from The University of California at Berkeley with a degree in comparative literature, did graduate work in film at San Francisco State University, and worked on film projects with Jonathan Demme and Spalding Gray, among others. Pavel writes his prose primarily in Russian and his screenplays primarily in English. He authored three collections of short prose in Russian, River #7 (New York, 2000), The City Of Vanishing Spaces (Tver, 2002),and A Unique Occurrence (Moscow, The Russian Gulliver, 2009). His work appeared in The Anthology of Short Stories (ACT, Moscow, 2000) and A Unique Occurrence made the long list for the Russian Prize in 2009. His short stories have appeared in literary magazines in Moscow, New York, Munich, Jerusalem, and Helsinki, and have been translated into English, German, and Finnish. The German translation of Fluss #7 (Frankfurter Verlagsanstalt) came out in 2003. Six of his stories open the 2006 issue of the literary magazine Kommentarii and his work is featured in online TextOnly (2006-2007) magazine. His short stories in English translation have appeared in the Words Without Borders magazine of international literature. Pavel covers the New York literary, theatre and film scene for the Moscow magazines Foreign Literature and Teatr and is a columnist for Snob magazine.

 
Окончил филологический факультет университета Беркли, штат Калифорния, учился в аспирантуре факультета кино Сан-Францисского университета. Участвовал в кинопроектах Джонатана Демме, Сполдинга Грея и др. Пишу прозу и сценарии на английском и русском языках. Рассказы переводились на немецкий, английский, финский и другие языки и публиковались в журналах Москвы, Санкт-Петербурга, Нью-Йорка, Иерусалима, Мюнхена и Хельсинки.
