Tribute to Sullivan Hall w/ Nevermoon, Ellina Graypel and Interzona

Another really cool spot, a true landmark in NYC’s live music scene is going away falling victim of “area development”. Does Greenwich Village need to be “developed”? Does “developing” necessarily mean driving the nightlife away turning historical hang-out spots to dull and faceless luxury residential blocks?.. Well, these questions are merely rhetorical. In any case, life moves on! So, let’s get together one more time to celebrate love, life and freedom of artistic expression, like we always did at Sullivan Hall!
9pm : NEVERMOON (goth / folk / newwave)
10pm : ELINA GRAYPEL & THE BAND (alternative rock)
11pm : INTERZONA (electro-rock / alterna-dance)

Jewfro Records Summer Jam

Message from DJ Spinach: Let’s get together and share the vibe!!! Show featuring ZONGO JUNCTION, NEW YORK SKA JAZZ ENSAMBLE; DJs QUEEN MAJESTY, Spinach and Earthian.
ZONGO JUNCTION ( Private Records )
Generating a well-deserved buzz in NYC’s exploding afrobeat scene, Zongo Junction electrifies dance floors wherever they perform. The Village Voice describes their live show as “Sheer energy with the force of a tractor-trailer that roars with power and noise.” With five horns, and a six-piece rhythm section, audiences can’t help but move no matter where the band is playing.
If the Talking Heads produced a Fela Kuti record of Sun Ra’s music, the product would probably sound something like Brooklyn’s Zongo Junction, and in an industry where it has become commonplace to watch bands perform with laptops & backing tracks instead of live musicians, Zongo Junction takes the stage 11 strong. “The only thing Zongo Junction has to do to start a legitimate dance party is show up and plug in – anyone within a square block earshot of this Ford-tough funk factory would be hard pressed not to join in the hoopla” says the Bay Area’s SF Station.
The New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble (NYSJE) is an internationally renowned recording and touring group. Since the bands inception in 1994, they have released ten CDs and they have performed regularly throughout Europe, Canada, USA, and South America.
NYSJEs recordings and performances have garnered them critical acclaim for their high energy, creative originals, kinetic ska interpretations of jazz standards, as well as their potent mix of dance hall, reggae, rock steady and jazz. Performance highlights include: The North Sea Jazz Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival, The Quebec Festival de Musique, Musiques en Ete (Geneva), The Bob Marley Reggae Festival with Israel Vibration and Sister Carol, and The Discover and Bell Atlantic Jazz festivals in the U.S. In addition, NYSJE has the singular distinction of being the first American Ska band to play in Poland after the wall came down.
The band had been featured in Downbeat, Reggae Nucleus, The Beat, Ragga and Jazziz magazines. NYSJE s music can be heard regularly on television– on the Nickelodeon network, MTVs Road Rules, as well as two nationally airing Campbells Soup Commercials. In Italy, their video, Properly, airs on MTV.
Queen Majesty has been collecting reggae vinyl for the past 16 years and selecting it at various venues all around the world for over a decade.
As one of the 4 members of NYC’s Deadly Dragon Sound, she can also be found bringing crates of 45s to their weekly downtown parties that showcase Jamaican music and artists as well as sound system culture.
In addition to this, she had hosted the radio show “Deadly Dragon Sounds” on for over 6 years. This show was a forum to support Jamaican artists both legendary and breaking. Some in-studio guests included Jimmy Cliff, Sugar Minott, Johnny Osbourne, Brigadier Jerry, Dawn Penn, Ranking Joe, Spragga Benz, Bushman, Gappy Ranks and Screechie Dan. She now is now the host of “Jamaica Rock” every Thursday from 2-4pmET also on East Village Radio.
Queen Majesty never ceases to find songs she has never heard before in this vast genre, and she is endlessly happy to play these rare gems alongside classic tunes for fellow-music lovers.
Resident DJS Spinach and Earthian.

Meshugeneh House of DIY

RJeneration and COJECO present: Meshugeneh House of DIY
From DIY facebook page: DIY is BACK! We’re once again celebrating the Do-It-Yourself ethos, something our Russian Jewish forebears were doing long before it was appropriated by hipsters! Fermenting sauerkraut? Making your own cheese/kvas/pickles/earrings/vodka infusions? We’ll be following in our ancestors footsteps, but also exploring some modern-day pursuits like yoga, body painting, Jewish meditation and art, cloning, drumming, tantra, and much more.
Join us at this incredible Williamsburg rooftop, for a meshugeneh day of workshops. We’re bringing back favorites from the first DIY and adding a slew of new quirks, including a dedicated food track in a commercial kitchen. Choose from workshops running throughout the day, or hang back and mingle. There will be something for everyone. Food, drinks, and a beautiful sunset overlooking the Manhattan skyline are on the menu!
Our amazing array of partners is as eclectic as our community:
* Peace Temple – creating peaceful community events
* DJ Spinach – legendary master of vinyl
* Two Tablespoons – gastronomic geniuses
